Mars Hill Names Ken Miller Head Women’s Soccer Coach
MARS HILL, N.C. - Ken Miller has been hired as the new Mars Hill women's soccer head coach, Athletic Director David Riggins announced today. Miller replaces Scott Ginn who left to pursue a high school teaching job in South Carolina.
Mars Hill Athletic Director David Riggins stated, "Ken is the right person for our position. He brings South Atlantic Conference experience with him which will prove invaluable as he builds our program. His soccer background combined with his philosophy of working with young people made him an ideal choice for Mars Hill."
Miller spent the last three seasons as the men's soccer head coach at Chowan University. He oversaw all daily operations associated with the program.
"I'm very excited to be at Mars Hill," remarked Miller. "I look to build a competitive and successful soccer program that continues the tradition of winning that Mars Hill has enjoyed in all of its sports."
From 2002-2006, Miller served as an assistant men's soccer coach at Carson-Newman. During the four year span, the Eagles compiled an overall record of 55-19-7. He helped guide Carson-Newman to three South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Championships (2003-2005), one conference tournament championship (2005), and three Division II National Tournament appearances (2003-2005).
In 2004 and 2005, while assisting at Carson-Newman, Miller also took on the head coaching job for the men's soccer team at Morristown High School in Morristown, Tenn. He led the Hurricanes to a 2004 District Championship and in 2005 to District Runner-up and State Tournament Regional Runner-Up finishes.
Before that, Miller spent three seasons (1999-2001) as the men's soccer head coach at Santa Fe Catholic High School in Lakeland, Fla. He coached the Hawks to a District Runner-Up finish and a State Tournament Quarterfinalist appearance in 2000.
Miller's club coaching experience dates back to 1999 when he headed up the Under 15-17 Boys' and Under-14 and Under-18 Girls' teams in Lakeland, Fla., until 2002. From 2003-2006, he was the head coach of the Under-12 Girls' and Under-18 Boys' teams in Morristown, Tenn.
Miller is an alumnus of Carson-Newman and played college soccer for the Eagles from 1995-1999. During his collegiate career, he was a three-year varsity starter and four-year lettermen and team captain during his senior season.
Miller earned his undergraduate degree in history in 1999 from Carson-Newman. He received a Master's degree in curriculum and instruction in 2004 from Carson-Newman.
The Lakeland, Fla., native is married to the former Amy McLeod and they have two children, a son Nathan and a daughter, Nya.
Mars Hill College is a NCAA Division II institution and a member of the South Atlantic Conference. The league is comprised of schools in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
