Tusculum’s Henderson Named Women’s Soccer All-American for Second Time
MISSION, Kan. --- Tusculum College senior midfielder Tara Henderson has been named to the NSCAA/adidas NCAA Division II Women's Soccer All-America Second Team announced College officials Tuesday.
Henderson, a native of Norwood, Ohio earns All-American honors for the second time in her career. She was a Second Team All-American selection in 2001. The Norwood High School graduate led the Pioneers to a 15-5-1 record this season including the program's first-ever berth to the NCAA Tournament.
Henderson holds the distinction as the first All-American in the program's history. She is also the first TC student-athlete to earn All-South Atlantic Conference recognition four times.
She started in all 21 matches this season recording four goals, including three match-winners. Her biggest score came in the Food Lion SAC Tournament Final when she recorded a golden goal in TC's 1-0 overtime win over Presbyterian College. For her efforts, she was named to the All-Tournament team for the second time in her career. She was the 2001 SAC Tournament Most Valuable Player, scoring the match-winning goal with 26 seconds left in the semifinal round over Wingate University.
This year, Henderson recorded 11 points, including three assists as the Pioneers captured its third SAC Tournament title in four years. During her career, she was a three-time All-Southeast Region selection, including First Team honors in 2001 and 2003.
Tusculum finished the season winning four of its last five
matches with the only setback coming against eventual national
champion Kennesaw State University in the Southeast Region final.
The Pioneers ended the year ranked No. 11 in the nation, the
program's highest ranking to end a season.
