HICKORY, N.C. – The Queens Royals women's lacrosse team completed an amazing conference season with a 18-14 victory over Limestone inside Moretz Stadium this afternoon. The Royals now have an overall record of 12-1 on the season.
The Royals came out strong in the first half scoring only 12 seconds into the game with Limestone answering back with two goals to follow. Queens ran up the score in the last 15 minutes of play scoring seven goals to Limestones one. The scoring continued in the second half putting up eight points, one of those being in the last five seconds of the game, to secure the Championship title.
Individually, Kara Blanchard and Ally Blood led the Queens offense with four goals each, while teammate Rachel Perrett scored three. The SAC Tournament MVP Sara Mitrecic and goalie for the Royals saved nine goals with 23 shots on goal. Defensively, Shannon Donovan caused two turnovers to go along with her three ground balls. There were multiple Queens players who also picked up one or more ground balls.
The NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse selection show is scheduled to air on Sunday, May 9 on NCAA.com, which will determine the postseason fates of the SAC schools.
