Three SAC Women's Basketball Teams Selected to Play in the NCAA Tournament
ROCK HILL, S.C. (theSAC.com) – Three South Atlantic Conference women's basketball teams were selected to the field of 64 teams as the NCAA announced the DII Tournament brackets this evening. Coker earned the No. 2 seed while Anderson is the No. 3 and Carson-Newman was selected at No. 6.
Coker won its first-ever South Atlantic Conference regular season title and boasts the league's Player of the Year in Shawnteeana Tillman and Coach of the Year in Melissa DeVore. This marks the first time Coker has made the NCAA Tournament in the SAC era.
Anderson grabbed the automatic bid with its third SAC Tournament title in program history. The Trojans beat Coker in the title game with Diamond McDowell earning Tournament MVP honors. Anderson is in the tournament for the seventh time in the SAC era for the Trojans who are 5-8 in tournament games during that timeframe.
Carson-Newman grabbed an at-large bid thanks to a second-place finish in the conference standings. The Eagles went 22-8 overall and 18-6 in league play to advance to NCAA Tournament play for the 13th time in program history. Carson-Newman trails only Wingate in most all-time NCAA Tournament wins during the SAC era and will look for their 10th tournament win.
North Georgia earned the top seed in the region and will host the 7-game regional.
