Lady Railplitters Fall In Close Battle To Wingate
Wingate, NC – The Lincoln Memorial Lady Railsplitters fall in a close battle to the Wingate Bulldogs Saturday afternoon, 65-68.
It was a rough start for Lincoln Memorial as Wingate scored double the points of LMU in the first quarter, 23-13. The Lady Railspitters picked up the momentum in the second quarter as both teams posted up 19 points each, which made the score 32-42 going into halftime with Wingate taking the advantage. In the first half, LMU was 13/30 from the field and 5/19 from the three.
Lincoln Memorial dominated in the third quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 20-10. The fourth quarter was quite a battle. Wingate would score only three points more than Lincoln Memorial, 16-13, which would ultimately give Wingate the win 68-65.
Kamil Collier led the game with 14 points along with posting a game-high 8 rebounds. Collier went 6/8 from the field and 100% on the free-throw line. Alexa Smiddy and Matty Tanner also scored double-figures, with Smiddy recording 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists and Tanner registering 12 points and team-high 6 assists. Caroline Sikkink recorded 9 points and 6 rebounds, and Lexi Patty posted 8 points and 5 rebounds. Asia Barr, Keiara Anderson, and Dominique Rodriguez finished out the scoring for the Lady Railsplitters with 3 points each.
As a team, LMU went 47.2% from the field and 10/32 from behind the arch. They were 83.3% from the free-throw line and posted 28 rebounds. They registered 14 points off of Wingate turnovers and 30 points from the paint.
With the loss, Lincoln Memorial moves to 8-10 overall and 7-8 in the SAC.
Their next game will be at home on Wednesday, January 29th against Mars Hill. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 pm in Tex Turner Arena.
