Lady Railsplitters Defeat Pioneers On The Road
Greenville, TN - The Lincoln Memorial Lady Railsplitters defeat the Tusculum Pioneers Wednesday evening 79-70.
LMU's offensive stride began at tip-off, as this game was the highest scoring game from Lincoln Memorial this season. The Lady Railsplitters scored 19 in the first quarter, 11 of those points coming from Matty Tanner, with Tusculum only being able to put up 12 points. In the second quarter, Tusculum was able to shorten LMU's lead as they were able to outscore Lincoln Memorial 20-19. The score going into halftime 38-32, with Lincoln Memorial in the lead. In the first half, LMU was shooting 5/8 from the three, and 6/12 from the field.
Continuing into the third quarter, it was a battle between the two teams as the scoring was almost even, with Tusculum only scoring one more point than LMU, 18-17. The fourth quarter, the Lady Railsplitters pull through in the final minutes of the game as they were able to keep their lead and post 24 points compared to the Pioneer's 20, giving Lincoln Memorial the win 79-70.
Matty Tanner had a massive night, as she posted a season-high 28 points and shot 7/12 from behind the arch. Tanner also recorded 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Kamil Collier registered a double-double on the night, scoring 10 points and recording 11 rebounds. Lexi Patty also had an impressive night, recording 18 points, with 10 of those coming from the free-throw line, along with 2 rebounds. Alexa Smiddy and Asia Barr each registered 9 points, with Smiddy posting 4 assists and Barr recording 2 rebounds and 3 assists. Caroline Sikkink recorded 3 points and 5 rebounds and Jamyah Winter finished out the scoring with 2 points.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial went 24/50 from the field and 10/23 from the three. They also went 21/30 from the free throw line, which a season-high for the team in free-throws made. Rebounds was even as both teams secured 36 rebounds.
With the win, Lincoln Memorial improves to 7-8 overall and 6-6 in the South Atlantic Conference.
Their next game will be at home on January 18th at 2 pm, facing the Catawba Indians in Tex Turner Arena.
