Seven SAC Teams Represented in Easton/NFCA Academic Honor Rankings

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The NFCA, in combination with Easton, announced their 2018-19 Academic Team rankings and Scholar-Athlete honors on Wednesday (Oct. 2). Seven South Atlantic Conference teams made an appearance on either the team or individual list, with 64 student-athletes receiving recognition.

The rankings and honors recognize the academic excellence of softball teams across the Association's membership categories. Individually, 8,161 softball players earned Easton/NFCA Scholar-Athlete honors, the largest number to date. Division II had 1,306 student-athletes earn a 3.5 grade-point average or higher for the year.

As teams, Queens ranked 21st of the 87 teams listed, earning a 3.568 GPA.  Newberry finished 30th with a 3.526 GPA. Tied with three other institutions, Tusculum, comes in at 31st with their 3.520 GPA. Anderson rounded out the SAC teams in the top-50 at 42nd with a respectable 3.481 GPA.

Newberry led the way, on an individual basis, with 15 student-athletes being named a scholar-athlete. The Pioneers followed close behind with 14 student-athletes. The Royals had 12 on their roster, Coker tallied 11, Lincoln Memorial had eight, UVa-Wise had three and just one member of the Trojan team was listed.
