NCAA Releases Second Week of Division II Softball Regional Rankings
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Seven South Atlantic Conference softball teams were named in the second week of the NCAA Division II southeast region rankings. Lincoln Memorial, Carson-Newman, Newberry, Queens, and Coker are seeded No. 2 through No. 6. Wingate and Lenoir-Rhyne round out the ranking at No. 9 and No. 10, respectively.
The Railsplitters (34-12, 12-8 SAC) won the conference regular season title, and by virtue the No. 1 seed in the tournament, for the first time in program history.
The Eagles (26-9, 11-9 SAC) locked in a No. 3 seed in the upcoming SAC Championship with a sweep of regionally-ranked Newberry.
The Wolves (29-15, 11-9 SAC) were swept by regionally-ranked Carson-Newman to fall into a three-way tie for second in the conference standings.
The Royals (22-14, 10-10 SAC), the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament, were swept by Mars Hill in their regular season finale.
The Cobras (30-16, 9-10 SAC) took two games from Anderson, including an extra-inning affair that ended courtesy of a Brianna Strickland sacrifice fly.
The Bulldogs (32-16, 11-9 SAC) was idle during the week, but won the three-way tie break to earn the No. 2 in the conference championship.
The Bears (26-18, 9-10 SAC) split their two-game meeting with Tusculum to sneak into the SAC tournament as the final seed.
