Wingate Sweeps AstroTurf Softball Players of the Week Honors
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Softball Players of the Week for games played during April 15 through April 21. Wingate collected both player and pitcher honors with Aubrey Reep and Rachel Weidner, respectively.
A junior designated player, Reep blasted three home runs as the Bulldogs finished the regular season as the No. 2 seed in the tournament. The Eastover, N.C. native hit .400 in four games, driving in seven runs, while scoring six. Her grand slam in the top of the seventh at Lenoir-Rhyne added insurance to the Bulldogs' sweep of the Bears. This is Reep's second Player of the Week honor of the season.
Weidner, a senior right-handed pitcher, picked up a pair of complete-game wins over Carson-Newman and Lenoir-Rhyne. The Greenville, N.C. native pitched 15.1 innings, piling up 21 strikeouts, while posting a 1.37 earned run average versus two of the conference's top offenses. This is Weidner's first Pitcher of the Week honor of the season.
