NCAA Releases First Week of Division II Softball Regional Rankings
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Six South Atlantic Conference softball teams were named in the first week of the NCAA Division II southeast region rankings. Lincoln Memorial, Carson-Newman, and Lenoir-Rhyne take No. 2 through No. 4, respectively. Newberry and Coker are sixth and seventh, while Wingate rounds out the top-10.
The Railsplitters (31-11, 9-7 SAC) recently swept regionally-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne for the first time in program history, aided by SAC AstroTurf Player of the Week Sierra Hucklebee's .651 batting average.
The Eagles (24-9, 9-9 SAC) split their last two SAC road contests versus regionally-ranked Wingate and Mars Hill.
The Bears (25-17, 8-9 SAC) have lost five in a row with all being to regionally-ranked opponents: Newberry, Lincoln Memorial, and Wingate.
The Wolves (27-13, 9-7 SAC) split their series with the regionally-ranked Bears to take the No. 6 seed in the southeast.
The Cobras (28-14, 7-8 SAC) took one game from Tusculum courtesy of two-run home run off of the bat of Brianna Strickland in the top of the seventh.
The Bulldogs (32-16, 11-9 SAC) dominated Lenoir-Rhyne in their sweep, pouring on 23 runs in the double-header to the Bears' seven.
