The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week
Anderson catcher Cailah Niles has been named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Softball Player of the Week and Carson-Newman left-hander Lacie Rinus has been named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played Feb. 1-Feb. 4, the League announced today.
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anderson catcher Cailah Niles has been named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Softball Player of the Week and Carson-Newman left-hander Lacie Rinus has been named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played Feb. 1-Feb. 4, the League announced today.
Niles, a senior from Phenix City, Ala., opened her 2018 season by leading the Trojans to a pair of wins over Southern Wesleyan. In the process she had a .625 batting average, going 5-for-8 at the plate with two doubles, a home run, two runs scored and six RBIs. Her home run was the 48th of her career, which broke the all-time home run record at Anderson and in the South Atlantic Conference.
Rinus, a sophomore from Murfreesboro, Tenn., earned a win and a save in her first two outings of the season. For the week, she threw seven innings, allowed just three hits and no runs with 11 strikeouts and one walk.
These are the first Player of the Week selections for both Niles and Rinus this season.
