The South Atlantic Conference Announces Softball Players of the Week, April 26
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Lenoir Rhyne's Erin Boone was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Week, Stacey Houser of Wingate was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played April 18-24, the League announced today.
Boone, a freshman from Creedmoor, N.C., batted .625 (10-for-16) with eight runs scored, three doubles and three runs batted in to lead the Bears to a pair of conference sweeps over Queens and Carson-Newman on the road last week as the Bears (43-9, 20-2) clinched the South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Championship. Boone had at least two hits and every game and scored the lone run in the Bears' 1-0 victory over the Eagles Saturday in Jefferson City, Tenn. Boone also had a .938 slugging percentage and stole two bases. The honor is her first Player of the Week nod this season.
Houser, a senior from Mooresville, S.C., picked up three wins in Wingate's 4-0 week, allowing just one earned run in 24 innings of work, tossing a pair of shutouts. Houser was locked in an 11-inning pitching duel with last year's Pitcher of the Year Carly Tysinger. Houser and the Bulldogs prevailed 4-2 in 11 innings, with Houser allowing just six hits on the day, striking out three while allowing just one earned run. Houser was dominant in Saturday's sweep against Anderson. She fired 14 shutout innings, allowing just five singles. She tossed a three-hit shutout in the 1-0 game one victory, striking out six. Houser came back out for game two, allowing only two singles while striking out two and walking one as the 'Dogs moved up the third place in the SAC standings. The award is her first Pitcher of the Week plaudit this season.
