The South Atlantic Conference Announces Softball Players of the Week, March 8
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Queens' Elaina Frantellizzi was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Week, while Lindsay Dean from Carson-Newman and Brevard's Jamie Hrobak was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Co-Pitchers of the Week for games played Feb. 29-March 6, the League announced today.
Frantellizzi, a sophomore from Stony Brook, N.Y., batted .682 with 15 hits, two home runs and 11 RBI to lead the Royals to a 6-1 record last week. She posted five multi-hit games and drove in multiple RBI in three contests. Frantellizzi posted a two-run homer against Belmont Abbey on March 2 and notched four RBI on a pair of hits against St. Augustine's on March 5. She stayed hot later in the day against Winston-Salem as she plated three runs on four hits. Frantellizzi slugged 1.136 in the seven-game span and recorded an on-base percentage of .692. The award is her first Player of the Week selection this season.
Dean, a sophomore from Coeburn, Va., notched a pair of one-hit shutout wins for the Eagles last week. She got her week started with eight strikeouts in a five-inning win over Bluefield State on March 2. For days later against Clark Atlanta, Dean tossed seven innings and struck out six hitters. The award is her first Pitcher of the Week honor this season.
Hrobak, a senior from Mill Spring, N.C., mowed down 71 hitters in 40.2 innings of work for the Tornados last week. She posted three contests with double-digit strikeouts, including a pair of games with 13 strikeouts. She posted nine appearances for Brevard last week and recorded an earned run average of 1.89. The honor is her first Pitcher of the Week nod this season.
