HARROGATE, Tenn. – Catawba pitcher Carley Tysinger made history on Thursday night at the 2014 Food Lion SAC Softball Championship, breaking the NCAA Division II single-game record with 27 strikeouts.
Tysinger – who got all but one out in the 16-inning first-round thriller – topped the former record of 26 strikeouts set by Sonoma State's Samantha Lipperd in 2012. The mark was one shy of matching the NCAA single-game record for all divisions.
Catawba won the game 6-3, upsetting the top-seeded Bears.
Tysinger walked only four while facing 65 hitters in the game. She was named the SAC Freshman of the Year and SAC Pitcher of the Year a season ago.
