Three SAC Schools among Top 25 in Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Fall Standings
Three SAC member institutions are ranked in the top 25 of the NCAA Division II Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings following the completion of fall sports seasons. The Directors’ Cup – which is in its 20th year – recognizes athletic excellence on the national level in up to 14 sports.
CLEVELAND – Three SAC member institutions are ranked in the top 25 of the NCAA Division II Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings following the completion of fall sports seasons. Wingate leads all SAC team in the standings at No. 11, while Carson-Newman is No. 23 and Lenoir-Rhyne is No. 25. Also appearing in the fall release are Anderson and Queens, which are for 65th, Newberry at No. 99, Mars Hill at No. 117 and Tusculum at No. 121.
Wingate's impressive fall season included regional championships from its volleyball, women's soccer and cross country programs. Carson-Newman, meanwhile, earned a spot in the cup's top 25 after its men's soccer team advanced to the national championship match and its football program reached the NCAA Championship's second round.
Lenoir-Rhyne's position in the cup standings was secured by a national title game appearance from its football team and an NCAA Tournament selection from its women's soccer program.
The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings will be updated again following the completion of Division II's winter sports seasons.
