Tusculum’s Cooper, Anderson’s Mahaffey Named SAC Runners of the Week
Tusculum sophomore David Cooper and Anderson senior Amanda Mahaffey turned in strong performances at events last weekend, and on Tuesday were named the SAC cross country Runners of the Week.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Tusculum sophomore David Cooper and Anderson senior Amanda Mahaffey turned in strong performances at events last weekend, and on Tuesday were named the SAC cross country Runners of the Week.
Cooper earned his second individual title of the season and third of his career by winning Saturday's Maryville Invitational. The Greeneville, Tenn., native covered the 8K course in a time of 27:19, the 17th-fastest performance in Tusculum history.
Behind Cooper, the Pioneers finished first as a team at the event.
Mahaffey, meanwhile, led Anderson to a second-place finish at the Furman Invitational by placing 12th in the individual standings. She finished with a season-best time of 19:51.20, slashing more than two minutes off her previous season-best.
In a race that featured multiple Division I schools, Mahaffey's time was the fourth-best among Division II runners.
