Wingate’s Watson, Tusculum’s Frary named SAC Runners of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Wingate Universty's Jayce Watson was named the SAC Men's Runner of the Week and Alex Frary of Tusculum College was selected as the SAC Women's Runner of the Week, conference officials announced today.
Watson, a 5-8, 135-pound sophomore from Millersport, Ohio (Millersport HS) finished third in a tough Wingate University Invitational field. Five teams in the Wingate field were ranked in the pre-season NCAA Division II Southeast Region top 10. Watson finished behind two St. Andrews Presbyterian College runners in the Wingate race. The Knights qualified for the 2005 NCAA national meet. Watson's 33:57 is a career-best 10K time for the sophomore harrier.
Frary a 5-5, freshman from Morristown, TN (Morristown HS) won the 2006 Tusculum Invitational with a time of 21:10.3. The Morristown, TN rookie led the Pioneers to the team title, posting a score of 15 points.
The SAC Runners of the Week are selected by a vote of the league's sports information directors.
