The SAC Announces WePlayed Sports Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets contested during the second week of competition. Wingate's Titouan Le Grix earned the track honor while Carson-Newman's Oluwatimi Williams earned the field honor.
Le Grix, a senior distance runner from Baillargues, France, finished second in the Raleigh Relays men's 5000 meters with his time of 13:28.23 Thursday. His school-record time is the No. 1 NCAA Division II time this season and the No. 4 NCAA Division II all-time mark. Both Le Grix and Raleigh Relays 5000 meters winner Rocky Hansen (Wake Forest) broke the Paul Derr Track and Field Facility record as well.
Williams, a freshman thrower from Murfreesboro, Tenn., was the story of Carson-Newman's quick trip to the Tennessee/Virginia border as he smashed the school record in discus throw by nearly a full meter. Williams set a mark to beat of 54.69m, which broke Trayzel Jureidni-Wyche's record from 2022. The mark not only gave Williams the victory at the meet but also set the fourth-best discus throw at Division II this season, only beaten by Owen Fraser of Missouri S&T, Spencer Helms of Harding, and Brennan Boord of Pittsburg State. Williams also earned a victory in the shot put, in which he set a school record in just last week at the Lee Invitational, achieving a distance of 16.31m to win the event.
