The South Atlantic Conference Announces WePlayed Sports Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets contested during the seventh week of competition. Anderson's Elliot Dotson was named the Track Athlete of the Week while Carson-Newman's Verrol Sam was named the Field Athlete of the Week.
Dotson, a sophomore from Greenville, S.C., competed in the men's mile event at the App State Open on Friday. He placed fourth in the race with a mile of 4:01.76 (altitude conversion), a time that sits No. 1 in NCAA in 2024 and No. 4 all-time in NCAA DII history for the outdoor mile. Dotson's race converts to a 3:43.84 1500-meter, a score that leads the SAC, sits 9th across the NCAA this season and solidifies his spot in the event at the NCAA Championships at the end of May. Both the mile and 1500-meter times are personal bests for Dotson, as well as Anderson program records.
Sam, a freshman, won gold in the men's high jump at the App State Open over the weekend as he tied for first in the event with teammate Oluwafemi Richards. Sam recorded a 2.10 meter mark, good for No. 1 in the SAC and No. 1 in the Southeast Region.
