The South Atlantic Conference Announces WePlayed Sports Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets contested during the third week of competition. Wingate's Hamza Chahid was named the Track Athlete of the Week while Newberry's Kegan Crowell was named the Field Athlete of the Week.
Chahid, a sophomore from M'Rirt, Morocco, posted a new school record of 28:37.87 in the 10,000 meters at the Raleigh Relays this past week. Finishing 10th overall, Chahid was the top DII finisher in the 108-person field. His NCAA Division II provision mark is the fastest time in Division II this season.
Crowell, a graduate student from Beaufort, S.C., won the discus throw event at the SWU Gotta Run Invite on Friday. His throw of 52.26 meters beat his closest competitor by over 33 feet. Crowell now owns the Newberry College record for discus, leads the South Atlantic Conference on the Outdoor Performance List, and is 12th in Division II.
