The South Atlantic Conference Announces WePlayed Sports Men's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Men's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets contested during the first week of the indoor track & field season. Wingate's Hamza Chahid earned the track honor and teammate Tanaka Nzombe earned the field honor.
Chahid, a sophomore from Casablanca, Morocco, ran the No. 1 3000 meters time in the NCAA Division II on Saturday at Boston University's Sharon Colyear-Danville Indoor Opener. Chahid's time of 7:58.60 is a new school record, breaking his previous standard of 8:00.35 set when he won the national championship in the same event at the 2023 NCAA Indoor Nationals in March.
Nzombe, a junior from Centurion, South Africa, finished second in the men's high jump at the Visit Winston-Salem College Kick-off held inside the JDL Fast Track on Saturday. Nzombe's personal best mark of 2.04 meters is an NCAA provisional mark and the No. 1 jump in the SAC this season. He is also listed at No. 10 on the DII high jump list this season.
