Records Fall at Day One of South Atlantic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (TheSAC.com) – The Queens University of Charlotte Men's and Women's indoor track and field teams both stand at the top of the leaderboard after day one of the 2019 South Atlantic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at the JDL Fast Track on Saturday (Feb. 23).
Lenoir-Rhyne's Cole Henderson took home the first gold medal of the day, winning the men's weight throw with a distance of 16.51 meters. Elise Ulseth of Queens took home the first medal for the women, winning the long jump with a leap of 5.68 meters.
Daniel Nicholson of Lenoir-Rhyne earned first place honors in the men's pole vault with a height of 4.40 meters, setting a new SAC Indoor record. Queens took home first place honors in the next two events, with Natane Deruytter winning the women's 5,000-meter with a time of 17:43.55, while Aintzane Castarlenas won the women's pole vault with a height of 3.50 meters. Winning the men's 5,000-meter run was Carson-Newman's Luke Greer with a time of 14:58.74, setting a new SAC Indoor record.
Rounding out the individual winners for day one were Wingate's Hannah Hinson with a SAC Indoor record weight throw toss of 17.30 meters, and Wingate's Andrew Spence with a jump of 7.11 meter in the men's long jump.
Lenoir-Rhyne's distance medley relay (DMR) team took home first place honors in the women's DMR with a SAC Indoor record time of 12:56.63, while the Lenoir-Rhyne men's DMR team took home first place honors as well with a SAC Indoor record time of 10:27.37.
As for team scores, following the Royals are the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears in second place in both meets, while the Wingate Bulldogs and Carson-Newman Eagles are tied for third in the men's meet, and Wingate holds sole possession of third in the women's meet.
The 2019 SAC Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships will wrap-up on Saturday (Feb. 24) at the JDL Fast Track.
