SAC Records Continue to Fall on Day Three of SAC Swimming Championships
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Records continued to fall on day three of the South Atlantic Conference Swimming Championships. Through event 28, Wingate remains in the lead on both the men's and women's side.
The night began with the Women's 500 Freestyle, as Wingate's Lucie Andrews was crowned the champion with a time of 5:00.11. Catawba's Ella Gutenwik took second with a time of 5:01.41, while Wingate's Grace Wilson earned third with a time of 5:02.49. All three women earned an NCAA DII B Cut in the event.
In the Men's 500 Freestyle, Wingate's Ipkaev Damir claimed the top spot with a time of 4:27.19. Mars Hill's Andres Bodington took second with a time of 4:32.47 followed by Wingate's Gabriel Costa in third with a time of 4:32.53. All three men earned an NCAA DII B Cut in the event.
Wingate's Marta Beesmans won the Women's 100 Backstroke with a time of 55.06 while teammate Vera Karlsson followed in second with a time of 55.17. Carson-Newman's Kyla Blakemore finished third with a time of 55.32. All three women earned an NCAA DII B Cut in the event.
Wingate's Ney Chagas Filho claimed gold in the Men's 100 Backstroke, touching the wall first with a time of 48.34. Carson-Newman's Arthur Gluzman earned second with a time of 48.84 while teammate Daniel Ribeiro finished third with a time of 48.96. Chagas Filho earned an NCAA DII B Cut in the event.
In the Women's 100 Breaststroke, Wingate's Natalia Dwojak took first with a time of 1:02.30 followed by teammate Amanda Wenhold who took second with a time of 1:02.54. Carson-Newman's Breanna Belcher claimed third with a time of 1:03.19. All three women earned an NCAA DII B Cut in the event.
Catawba's Maks Minichowski won the Men's 100 Breaststroke and set a new SAC meet record with a time of 52.94. Wingate's Andres Martijena earned second with a time of 53.80 while teammate Noah Sadler earned third with a time of 54.62. All three men earned an NCAA DII B Cut in the event.
Another meet record was set in the Women's 200 Butterfly, as Carson-Newman's Martina Ivanova finished first with a new SAC record of 2:04.69. Wingate's Hana Kubalova earned second with a time of 2:04.93 and Carson-Newman's Maria Tirulli earned third with a time of 2:05.57. Ivanova and Kubalova earned an NCAA DII B Cut in the event.
Wingate swept the Men's 200 Butterfly as Kacper Korona finished first with a time of 1:47.66, Alex Smyre finished second with a time of 1:48.20 and Balint Kovacs finished third with a time of 1:49.99. Korona and Smyre earned an NCAA DII B Cut in the event.
The night concluded with the 800 Freestyle Relay, as Wingate finished first (7:32.88), Carson-Newman finished second (7:44.73) and Catawba finished third (7:45.99) on the women's side. For the men, Wingate took first (6:34.01), Lenoir-Rhyne finished second (6:49.07) and Catawba finished third (6:51.71).
