BACK-TO-BACK: Saints Win Second Straight SAC Men's Soccer Tournament Crown
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – For the second straight season, the Limestone Saints have been crowned South Atlantic Conference Tournament Champions. The top-seeded Saints scored the final four goals of the match to come back on the 6-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne Bears and win the title by a final score of 5-2 at the Matthews Sportsplex.
The Bears started the scoring off in the seventh minute as Jaheim Smith netted his first goal of the season. However, the Saints had a quick answer just 2:51 later as Stefan Roeb put home the equalizer.
In the 29th minute, Raul Canas put one perfectly in the upper 90 with Smith getting credited with the assist.
The half would end with LR up 2-1 but Limestone leading 9-6 in shots and 5-3 in shots on goal.
In the 50th minute, Limestone once again drew even as Claudel N'Gobo beat Tomas Fontes with Gregor Geru getting credit with the assist. Kaiss Mansouri scored the game-winner in the 58th minute.
Mark Radoki put the Saints up a pair with a goal in the 76th minute and then Moritz Guettel put home a penalty kick 1:41 later as the lead swelled to 5-2.
The Saints had five different goal scorers in the match. N'Goubou was named the tournament's MVP as he had two goals and two assists combined in the semifinals and championship.
The Saints earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament as the field will be announced tomorrow night on NCAA.com.
