Limestone and Coker Share SAC Men's Soccer Regular Season Crown; Tournament Bracket Announced
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Limestone and Coker ended the regular season with identical 9-1-1 league marks to share the 2024 South Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Regular Season Championship. Limestone earns the top seed in the SAC Tournament based on a 1-0 win over Coker in mid-September.
Limestone and Coker earned the right to host Quarterfinal games which will take place on Saturday as the top four seeds host before the Semifinals move to Matthews, N.C. and take place at the Sportsplex at Matthews.
Anderson and Mars Hill tie for third place in the standings. However, the Trojans earn the No. 3 seed with a head-to-head win over the Lions. Mars Hill grabs the number four seed and the final quarterfinal host. The Lions scored in the 87th minute to tie with Limestone and grab the number four seed. Had they lost, they would have slipped to fifth and had to travel in the quarterfinals.
Instead, Lincoln Memorial is the number five seed and will head to Mars Hill for quarterfinal action. The Railsplitters went 6-3-2 to have 20 points in SAC play.
Lenoir-Rhyne and Catawba tied for sixth place in the league standings and tied in tonight's regular season finale. With the head-to-head tie, the next tiebreaker is records against highest seed possible and continuing all the way to the lowest seed if necessary. Each team had the same result against seeds 1-4 but LR earned the tiebreaker with a win over No. 5 seed LMU while Catawba tied with the Railsplitters. Therefore, LR is the 6-seed and Catawba the 7.
Wingate rounds out the bids to the league tournament as the 8-seed with 12 points and a 4-7 mark in conference play. They will head to top-seed Limestone this weekend.
