Coker Earns Top Spot; Four Total in Week Two of NCAA Regional Rankings
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) -- The NCAA announced the second round of Regional Rankings for men's soccer this afternoon. This is the first rankings that are ordered as last week just listed the teams alphabetically.
Coker earns the top spot in the regional rankings as they own a 12-1 overall mark and are 8-1-1 in South Atlantic Conference play. The Cobras conclude the regular season tonight and have a shot to catch Limestone for the regular season title with a win and a Saints loss.
Speaking of Limestone, they come in at No. 4 in the rankings. After suffering their first defeat of the season, the Saints slip to 11-1-2 overall and 9-1 in the conference. A win or a tie at Mars Hill tonight would lock up the regular season title for Limestone.
The team that handed Limestone its first loss is Lincoln Memorial who slots in at No. 6 in the region. The victory improved the Railsplitters to 8-3-3 overall and 5-3-2 in league play.
Mars Hill checks in at No. 12 in the rankings. The Lions will have some work to do to pad their resume as the top 10 in the region will make the NCAA Tournament. However, Mars Hill has an excellent chance tonight as they take on Limestone at home.
The regional rankings are what the NCAA uses to select the NCAA Tournament field. The men's soccer regional rankings will be announced weekly on Wednesday afternoon.
