Wingate Sweeps South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Men's Soccer Player of the Week Awards
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Men's Soccer Players of the Week for matches played during week seven of the 2019 season. Wingate forward Paul Ngongo was named the offensive player of the week, while teammate and goalkeeper Jens Bergendorff was named defensive player of the week.
Ngongo, a freshman from Copenhagen, Denmark, tailed six points on three goals last week to lead the Bulldogs to a 2-0 record. He found the back of the net twice in the Bulldogs' 3-0 win over Queens, and he scored Wingate's lone goal in the 1-0 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne. This is the second offensive player of the week award for Ngongo this season.
Bergendorff, a freshman from Praestoe, Denmark, posted a pair of shutout victories for the Bulldogs last week, defeating Queens 3-0 and Lenoir-Rhyne 1-0. He made three saves in the clean sheet against Queens, while making a single save versus Lenoir-Rhyne. This is the first defensive player of the week accolade for Bergendorff this season.
