ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Men's Soccer Players of the Week for matches played between Sept. 10 and Sept. 15. Wingate forward Paul Ngongo was named the offensive player of the week, while Anderson defender Ryan Tyrer was named defensive player of the week.
Ngongo, a freshman from Copenhagen, Denmark, led the Bulldogs to a 1-0-1 record last week, with a 3-0 win over the defending national champion Barry University and a 2-2 draw with Nova Southeastern. For the week, he scored a goal and tallied an assist for three points. Ngongo's goal came against Barry and he assisted on a goal versus Nova Southeastern. So far this season he has scored three goals and has two assists. This is Ngongo's first offensive player of the week accolade.
Tyrer, a senior from Liverpool, England, was instrumental in the Trojans' two shutout victories last week. Anderson defeated Lees-McRae 3-0 and North Georgia 1-0. Tyrer anchored the backline for 180 minutes of play over the two games, allowing just six combined shots on goal over two games and no goals.
