Lincoln Memorial Leads After Opening Round of 2025 SAC Men’s Golf Championship
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Fueled by three players in the top five, Lincoln Memorial surged to the top of the leaderboard after Sunday's opening round of the 2025 South Atlantic Conference Men's Golf Championship, held at The Preserve at Verdae in Greenville, S.C.
The Railsplitters shot a team score of nine-under-par (279) to take a one-shot lead over Wingate, who sits at eight-under (280) after a strong opening day that featured two top-five individual performances.
Wingate's Lewis Beeden turned in the round of the day with an eight-under 64, giving him a four-shot lead in the individual standings. Lincoln Memorial's Ian Taggart is second at four-under, while teammates Max Reynolds and Jamie Dean, along with Wingate's Jordan Hyland and Catawba's Connor Carter, are tied for third at three-under.
Anderson is third on the team leaderboard at +6 (294), followed by Lenoir-Rhyne (+8, 296). Coker and Carson-Newman are tied for fifth at +11 (299), while Newberry (+15, 303), Catawba (+16, 304), and UVA-Wise (+16, 304) round out the top 10. Tusculum (+17, 305), Limestone (+21, 309), Mars Hill (+30, 318), and Emory & Henry (+43, 331) complete the 13-team field.
Two Anderson golfers—Simon Wright and Luke Sullivan—posted rounds of two-under (70) to tie for seventh, while Carson-Newman's Nick Daugherty sits at one-under (71) in ninth.
