MOVING ON! Coker and Wingate Finish in Top Eight to Advance to Match Play
WINTER GARDEN, FLA. (TheSAC.com) -- The Coker and Wingate men's golf teams have advanced to match play at the 2024 NCAA Division II Championships. Entering the day, the teams needed to finish in the top eight to see their seasons continue and Coker finished in a third-place tie while Wingate came in a tie for seventh.
The Cobras had their best day of the tournament, firing a 279 which was four shots better than their previous best. The -5 team score was the second-best round of the day, trailing only West Florida who finished first in stroke play. Caleb Tidd and Jonathan Hallinger shot 68 (-3) on the day with Hallinger's round placing him in a tie for fifth place. Tidd finished tied for 12th. Aaron Teece shot a 69 (-2) to claim a 33rd place finish.
Wingate finished tied for seventh with West Texas A&M but four shots clear of ninth-place Ferris St. The Bulldogs carded a 284 (E) on the day and were led by Jordan Hyland's 70. Hyland eagled hole four and had three birdies to finish tied for 15th overall. Lewis Beeden and Jake Smith each fired a 71 for Wingate.
Coker and Wingate will now move to match play tomorrow. Pairings and tee times will be announced later this evening.
