CHARLOTTE, N.C. - For the second straight year, the Queens University of Charlotte Royals are NCAA Division II Southeast Region Champions! The Royals defeated the Jaguars of Augusta 91-78 on Tuesday (March 19) evening to advance to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight in Evansville, Ind., March 27-30.
Leading the way for the No. 10 Royals was SAC Player of the Year Shaun Willett. He scored a career-high 33 points, while pulling down 13 rebounds for his 26th double-double of the season. Joining Willett in double figures for Queens were Jermaine Paterson with 12 points, and Lewis Diankulu and Daniel Carr with 11 points each.
Augusta's Deane Williams scored 25 points and had eight rebounds to lead the Jaguars, while Rafael Monteiro and Tyree Myers scored 17 points each.
The Royals will now wait to see who their quarterfinal opponent will be, as the remaining eight teams will be seeded before heading Evansville for the Elite Eight.
