Newberry's Walker Named D2Football National Offensive Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) –Newberry running back Chance Walker was named the D2Football.com National Offensive Player of the Week for his outstanding play during week seven of the 2019 season, it was announced on Tuesday (Oct. 22).
Walker, a junior from Gaston, S.C., led the Wolves to a 44-21 win over Catawba. He set program records for rushing yards with 261 and rushing touchdowns with six. He also set the Newberry single-game scoring record, and tied the SAC scoring record, accounting for 36 of the Wolves' points in the win. His six touchdowns also tied the SAC record for touchdowns in a game. He averaged 10 yards per carry, while also catching two passes for 20 yards. In all, he finished the day with 281 all-purpose yards.
Walker was also named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Offensive Player of the Week.
