ASHEBORO, N.C. -- After dropping the first game of the SAC Tournament, the Wingate Bulldogs rattled off six straight wins and complete a sweep of Lincoln Memorial to punch their ticket to the 2024 NCAA Division II Baseball Tournament. The Bulldogs clinched the title with a 9-1 victory this afternoon at McCrary Park.
The Bulldogs wasted little time in putting the Railsplitters away. Wingate put up four runs -- on three home runs -- in the top of the first and never looked back. That would be all the run support Carson Morton would need as he tossed seven innings and allowed just one run. Sean Barnett and Brett Adams each drove in three runs for the Bulldogs who allowed LMU to just four hits on the game.
The Bulldogs will advance to the NCAA Tournament and find out their draw tomorrow night at 10:30 p.m. as the NCAA announces the baseball tournament field.
