
Barton holds off Lions' late rally

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (5-1) suffered their first defeat of the 2022 season, falling to Barton (3-4) by a score of 10-7 Tuesday afternoon.
The Lions potent offense was held at bay by Barton in the first 30 minutes of play, only scoring one. Barton netted eight in the first half, entering the half with a seven-goal advantage.
The Bulldogs' Tamia Marshall scored in the first two minutes of the competition with Renee Perkins and Sydney Quinn following closely behind. Kiersten Foust answered back by scoring one 20 seconds after Quinn's goal, setting the score to 3-1 in the first.
The Bulldogs scored three unanswered in the second quarter, ballooning the score to 8-1. Mars Hill answered back in the third quarter by scoring five, while holding the Bulldogs to zero in the frame, entering the fourth trailing by just two. Two late goals in the fourth by the Bulldogs allowed Barton to escape Meares Stadium with their third win of the season.
Maria Fabrizio and Foust kept the team in the game, scoring two goals each throughout the competition. Virginia Joy made nine saves in the contest.
The Lions take on the Cavaliers of UVA Wise on Saturday, March 12 at 11 a.m. inside Meares Stadium.
