
Mars Hill defeats Lees-McRae in straight sets
The Mars Hill volleyball team (3-1) defeated Lees-McRae (3-3) in straight sets (25-16, 25-20, 25-22) Friday afternoon.
BRISTOL, Tenn. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (3-1) defeated Lees-McRae (3-3) in straight sets (25-16, 25-20, 25-22) Friday afternoon.
Ioana Poenaru led all players in the first set with six kills, hitting .455 in the frame. The duo of Laela Jimenez and Timmons Yates collected four digs aside while Jordan Schmucker racked up 13 assists and added one kill.
In the second, the Lions hit a match-high .231 as a team with Schmucker, Katilyn Grant, and Skylar Ogden each hitting .500 in the set. Poenaru led the team with four kills followed by three apiece from Grant and Jada Cannon.
Yates led the Lions in the third with five kills, hitting .714, as Mars Hill closed out the Bobcats in straight sets. Cannon added four kills followed by Nikkayla Stewart's two.
Poenaru led the Lions with 10 kills and added a team-high two aces. Cannon added nine kills, two aces, and 11 digs for the double-double. Stewart led all players with five blocks (5 BA) while Jimenez led Mars Hill with 23 digs. Schmucker ended the night with 32 assists, five digs, and four kills.
Mars Hill takes on King on Saturday, September 9 at 2 p.m.
