ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University men's soccer used a late second half goal to defeat South Atlantic Conference opponent Newberry, 1-0, Wednesday evening at Trojan Stadium.
With the win, the Trojans move to 5-5 overall and 2-3 in conference action while the Wolves drop to 2-5-2 overall and 2-3-1 in SAC play.
The Black and Gold put pressure on Newberry the entire night with it paying off in the 72nd minute. Senior Lars Kaula recovered a loose ball in front of the goal and drilled it past the keeper for the ultimate game-winner.
Anderson outshot Newberry 11-7 with six of the shots coming on goal. The Trojans also held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Freshman Gal Elyashiv returned in goal after missing the last game and a half due to injury. Elyashiv recorded two saves while earning his fifth win of the season.
The Trojans return to action on Saturday when they travel to SAC foe Lenoir-Rhyne. Kick-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
