HICKORY, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (4-10, 1-6 SAC) was defeated by Lenoir-Rhyne (10-5, 6-1 SAC) by a score of 16-3 Monday afternoon.
The Bears opened the contest on a 7-0 run, highlighted by Rachel Elmore's natural hat-trick. Cathleen Gaffney assisted on all three goals. Gaffney added three goals and one more assist to end the half with seven points. Victoria Eckard scored the lone Lions' goal in the half for her 16th marker of the season.
Maria Fabrizio scored the opening goal of the second half for her 24th of the season. Lenoir-Rhyne scored three straight goals after the Lions' marker to extend their league to 14-2 with 13:07 remaining in regulation. Molly Tobias netted the Lions' last tally of the night on a free position attempt. Following Tobias' marker, the Bears would add two more goals on the night.
Gaffney led all players with eight points (3g, 5a) followed by Alyssa Sack's six (2g, 4a) points.
The Lions wrap up the 2019 regular season on Saturday, April 20th when they host Newberry inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. First draw is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Senior Day.
