The Wasps got on the board in the top of the third. Junior outfielder Isaiah Bracy (Henrico, Va.) led off the inning with a triple into the right-center gap, then scampered home on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 6-1.
The home team added to its lead in the bottom of the fourth with two more runs on three base knocks, then tacked on another in the bottom of the fifth to balloon the margin out to 9-1. E&H got a run back in the top of the sixth when senior first baseman Jacob Bebber (Taylorsville, N.C.) was hit by a pitch, then matriculated his way around the bases to score on three consecutive wild pitches to draw the Wasps back within seven at 9-2. Anderson was too much in game one as they scored one more in the home half of the eighth to take the win by a 10-2 final score.
Walker Noland earned the win for the Trojans as he scattered a pair of runs on five hits while striking out six batters over six innings of work. Freshman pitcher Cole Gillis (Charlotte, N.C.) took the loss for Emory & Henry after allowing six runs, four earned, in 1.2 innings on the mound. Bracy paced the Wasps offensively as he registered three hits, including the triple. Game Two - Anderson 5, Emory & Henry 3 (Seven Innings)
Emory & Henry was first on the board in game two as the Wasps struck for a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Foley drew a leadoff walk, then came around to score when senior shortstop Steven Smith (Salisbury, N.C.) singled and the Trojan centerfielder struggled to corral the baseball which allowed Smith to reach third base. Bebber delivered an RBI groundout and E&H held an early 2-0 lead.
Anderson responded in the bottom of the second inning as the Trojans scored three runs on four hits to leapfrog their way into a 3-2 advantage. The home team continued to increase their margin as they tacked on one run in the third and another in the bottom of the fourth to make it 5-2. The E&H bats were kept quiet until the top of the sixth inning. Smith reached on a fielding error by the AU shortstop, then swiped second and third base to set the stage for fifth-year designated hitter Caeden Howell (Roaring River, N.C.). Howell's RBI groundout plated Smith and reduced the deficit to 5-3. The Anderson bullpen settled in and retired the final four batters it faced to clinch the win by the 5-3 final tally.
Walker Case was the winning pitcher for AU as he allowed just two runs, one earned, on three hits with six strikeouts in five innings on the bump. Sophomore lefty Drew Lanzo (Indian Trail, N.C.) was saddled with the loss for the Wasps after surrendering five runs on nine hits over 3.2 innings of work. Sophomore Jacob Iverson (Fort Mill, S.C.) turned in his second solid outing in relief in as many days as he went 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. Junior catcher Ky Gregoire (Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA) had a pair of hits to pace the E&H offense while Smith and freshman outfielder Rhett Barker (Charlotte, N.C.) each had a base knock. Smith and Howell accounted for a pair of RBIs in the loss.
