HARTSVILLE, S.C. — The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team came up short on the road Sunday afternoon, falling 14–9 to Coker in a South Atlantic Conference matchup.
The Lions got off to a slow start, trailing 5–1 after the first quarter and 12–5 at the half. Despite a strong second-half response, including a shutout in the fourth quarter, the early deficit was too much to overcome.
Mars Hill (7–4, 3–2 SAC) was led offensively by Luke Moore, who recorded two goals and two assists. Josh McCallion and Brandon Woodward each scored twice, while Caleb Nelson contributed two assists. Xavier Wells stepped in at goalkeeper and made 10 saves to help steady the defense in the second half. The Lions also executed cleanly in transition, going a perfect 21-for-21 on clears.
Coker (5–5, 2–2 SAC) was led by Tyler Ajemian and Kaleb Hiltz, who both recorded hat tricks. The Cobras took advantage of early possessions, winning the ground ball battle 27–15 and claiming 16 of 27 faceoffs. They also went 3-for-4 on extra-man opportunities.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, March 29, when they return to Ammons Field to host Tusculum in another key SAC matchup.
