EMORY, Va. - The Mars Hill softball team (10-14, 1-5 SAC) was defeated by Emory & Henry (20-10, 3-3 SAC) in both games Wednesday afternoon, by scores of 4-3 and 11-2.
GAME ONE: E&H 4, MHU 3
In a late rally, the Wasps escaped game one with a 4-3 win.
Mars Hill led 2-0 after the top of the third, but Emory & Henry cut into the Lions' lead in the bottom of the frame. In the fifth, they plated two runs to take their first lead of the afternoon.
In the top of the sixth, the Lions took advantage of a Wasps' error, plating the go-ahead run as Riley Waters crossed home.
The Wasps, in the bottom of the sixth, retook the lead with a double down the left field line to plate the game-winning run.
Maia Sholter led the Lions with two hits while Bri Weimer and Farley Park each added one apiece.
GAME TWO: E&H 11, MHU 2 - 5 Innings
The Wasps recorded six extra-base hits, including two home runs, to cap off the sweep.
Abigail Street and Sawyer Tolley led all players with two hits. Tolley led all players with five RBI followed by three from Street.
Leah Grimes, Farley Park, and Sydney Hodges each recorded one hit in the game while Hodges and Riley Waters scored the Lions' two sixth inning runs.
Mars Hill returns home on Friday, March 14 when they host Coker inside Ponder Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
