Emory & Henry Softball Rallies To Defeat Young Harris, 4-2, Saturday Afternoon

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Emory & Henry University Softball Team (15-3) scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to complete a 4-2 comeback win over Young Harris College (7-9) Saturday afternoon. The contest was the first of a three-game series between the Wasps and Mountain Lions.

How It Happened
The Wasps threatened in the top of the first but were unable to generate any runs. YHC put a pair of runners in scoring position in the third as did E&H in the top of the fourth but the defenses continued to hold.

In the bottom of the fifth, Young Harris finally broke through with a run when Shelby Duncan drove in Avery Rein with a two-out base hit.

Emory & Henry responded in its half of the sixth as freshman designated player Liberty Johnson (Arvonia, Va.) hit a two-run shot to left for a 2-1 lead. The Mountain Lions tied things up at two runs apiece in the bottom of the frame as Gracie Hughes hit a solo homer to left.

The Wasps regained the lead in the top of the seventh on a one-out double to left-center by junior second baseman Abigail Street (Glade Spring, Va.) and made it a 4-2 contest when senior first baseman Lydia Taylor (Salem, Va.) plated senior right fielder Danielle King (Spencer, Va.) with a RBI groundout.

YHC got one runner aboard in its last chance at bat, but E&H retired the side to close out the win.

Emory & Henry junior Malorie Reeves (Galax, Va.) earned the complete-game victory, scattering one earned run on seven hits with two strikeouts. Isabelle Pecorilli took the loss for Young Harris, allowing four runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work.

Emory & Henry will complete its three-game series against Young Harris on Sunday. First pitch for the first game of the doubleheader is scheduled for noon.
