Coker Sweeps Adelphi and Shippensburg on First Day of Round Robin

Hartsville, SC - The Coker University Softball Team left the field feeling victorious after another sweep at home, this time versus Adelphi and Shippensburg in a early season round robin. 

Game One:

Kicking off game one against Adelphi, Courtney Wengryn homered to bring in the first run of the game at the top of the first. Despite an early lead, Caitlyn Wray of Coker doubled to left field, batting in Delaney Eaves and Chloe Pelham. This at bat put the Cobras up 2-2 in the bottom of the first. It wasn't until the top of the fourth that either team scored again, Adelphi's Faith Camilleri gaining an RBI once Courtney Wengryn crossed home plate. Tied at 2-2, Coker finally claimed the lead as Ariana Fair stole three bases and scored to close out the game. 

Of the 27 at bats, Coker collected seven hits, three runs, and two RBI's. Chloe Pelham and Caitlyn Wray led in hitting with two doubles, while Caitlyn Wray registered the two RBI's of the game. Ariana Fair also led her team in stolen bases for the day. 

Pitching for the Cobras, Jenae Fedewa collected her seventh win after facing 25 batters. Pitching all seven innings, Fedewa's pitch to strike count consisted of 73 pitches and 47 strikes.

Game Two:

After a slow start to Coker's second game of the day, Shippensburg finally got into action. Ally Weaver, Alyssa Nehlen, and Katelyn Minney of Shippensburg crossed home plate, earning the first runs of the game in the top of the third inning. The Cobras got to work and soon were withing reaching distance of the Raiders, their lead now cut down to one. Cameron Jackson reigned in the tying run, batting in Ariana Fair on an unearned run. Shippensburg answered back in the eight inning when Caitlyn Martell, Lindsey Haser, and Alyssa Nehlen scored. This now put the Raiders in the lead by three. The Cobras continued to push through all the way to the eight inning, Ariana Fair and Brooklynn Stueness tying the game at 6-6. Wtih a final bang, Kayla Oswell slammed a homerun over the fence in centerfield, bringing Caitlyn Wray and Delaney Eaves home for a 6-9 Cobra victory. 

Of the 35 at bats, Coker registered 16 hits, nine runs, and eight RBI's. Caitlyn Wray collected a double for her team, while Kayla Oswell hit the only home run of the game. Kayla Oswell also led her team in RBI's with three, followed closely by Caitlyn Wray with two. 

Tibby Hessian (20) Cecilia Hogel (9), and Hannah Fisher (9) pitched against a total of 38 batters with five strikeouts. Hannah Fisher claimed the win against the Raiders.

The Cobras will be returning to the field against Adelphi and Shippensburg once again on Saturday (Feb. 25). Coker will play at the times of 10 AM and 3 PM. Live streaming and stats will be available at www.cokercobras.com
