Cobras Ignite Offensively to Sweep St. Andrews

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team (7-1) compiled 33 runs in a pair of wins on Sunday (Feb. 12) in a non-conference doubleheader against the visiting St. Andrews University Knights. Coker picked up the win in game one by a score of 18-2. The Cobras continued to excel offensively in game two, winning the contest 15-2. 

In game one, Tayler Barcomb put the Cobras on the board with a two-RBI single to left center. St. Andrews responded with two runs of its own in the top of the third inning to tie the game up at 2-2. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the third, Hannah Price connected and hit a grand slam to put Coker ahead 6-2. The Navy and Gold rode the momentum into the fourth inning, scoring 12 runs to pick up the eventual 18-2 win.

Six players finished with two or more hits, led by the 3-for-4 performance of Price. She finished with six RBIs on the day and two runs scored. Kelsi Bachman went a perfect 3-for-3 in game one, scoring four runs. Barcomb finished with five RBIs and two hits, while Maria Williamson, Cacey Simmons and Allyson High also finished with two hits each.

Augusta Jackson (1-0) picked up the win. She scattered four hits and two earned runs in a complete game effort.

The Coker bats stayed hot in game two, scoring 11 runs in the first two innings. Price had two RBI singles in the first inning inning, while Breana Ard had a two-RBI double. Williamson, Katelyn Chambers and Bachman all finished the first inning with RBI base hits. After St. Andrews scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning, Coker added four insurance runs to secure the 15-2 win.

Price finished with five RBIs in game two, combining for 11 RBIs in the doubleheader. She finished game two 3-for-4 at the plate. Bachmann and Williamson each had two hits, while Barcomb, Ard, Chambers, Courtney Boan and Anna Gluhosky all collected hits.

Tabitha Allen picked up her first win of the season. She scattered five hits and two runs in complete game effort, while striking out seven batters.

The Cobras will be back in action on Saturday (Feb. 18) when they travel to Converse for a doubleheader. Opening pitch is set for 1 p.m.
