Bats Come Alive In Game Two To Help Trojans Defeat Emory & Henry

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University softball (22-12, 7-7) used 12 hits to spilt the South Atlantic Conference doubleheader with Emory & Henry (14-13, 9-5 SAC) dropping game one, 2-0, and winning game two, 9-5, on Saturday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.

In game one, Emory & Henry narrowly outhit the Trojans 5-4 with the Wasps taking advantage of one errant pitch to score the only two runs of the game.

Anderson's best chance came in the bottom of the fourth inning when senior Kayson Boatner led off with a triple. However, she was quickly erased after being called out at home on the 632 double play.

Freshman Carson Hobbs (9-6) suffered the loss giving up five hits and striking out five batters.

In game two, Anderson went ahead 1-0 after the first inning and then exploded for four runs in the bottom half of the second inning. The Trojans used five hits, including a double by sophomore Madison McDonald and a bomb by Boatner to put the Black and Gold ahead 5-0 after two innings of play.

The Wasps scored solo runs in the third and fourth inning with AU adding a lone run in the bottom of the fourth to stay ahead, 6-5. AU's junior Ava Worthy put the game out of reach after drilling a three-run home run to set the final score at, 9-5.

Junior Lane Edgington (9-4) earned the victory after pitching 4.1 innings. Edgington gave up six hit and battled through six walks while striking out three. Hobbs pitched the final 2.2 innings giving up no hits and striking out two.

Anderson will return to action on Wednesday when it travels to South Atlantic Conference opponent Tusculum. First-pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 2pm.
