Harrogate, TN – The Lincoln Memorial men's lacrosse team started their home record strong as they defeat the William Jewell Cardinals Friday evening 9-6.
LMU started the scoring quickly as
Haden Berry scored the first goal of the match with 14:43 remaining in the first quarter, unassisted. A minute and a half later,
Gavin Reid scored the Railsplitter's second goal with the assist coming from
Alex Wegrzyn. The Cardinals scored their only goal of the quarter with 6:34 remaining, with the goal coming from Heath. With the remainder of the quarter scoreless, the score going into the second quarter was 2-1 with LMU having the 1 goal lead.
Lincoln Memorial was once again the first team to score in the second quarter, with the Reid/Wegrzyn duo connecting once again. With 11:02 remaining, Reid scores his second goal of the match with Wegrzyn earning his second assist of the match. William Jewell would score 2 more goals before the end of the quarter, with Mitts scoring with 7:51 remaining and Peterson scoring with 4:00 remaining. The score would be tied up 3-3 going into halftime.
Not even a minute into the third,
Ashton Wilson would score his first goal of the match with 14:21 remaining, with
Daniel Pearl earning the assist. Pearl would tally a goal of his own with 8:43 remaining in the quarter, unassisted. With 3:29 remaining, the Cardinal's Novak would score. Pearl would score his second goal of the quarter and match with 2:25 remaining, unassisted. That would be the last goal scored in the third quarter, with the score would be 6-4 with LMU talking the lead.
The Railsplitters would really extend their lead in the fourth, starting with
Rhodes Conroy scoring back to back goals, the first one with 13:49 remaining, unassisted, and the second one with 7:53 remaining with
John Lombel recording the assist. William Jewel would score the last two goals of the match: Barvitz with 5:02 remaining and Novak with 3:49 remaining. The final score would be 9-6 with the Railsplitters taking their first win of the season.
Pearl and Conroy would lead in points on the night, both tallying 2 goals and 1 assist for 3 points. Reid would add 2 goals, and Berry, Wilson, and Winters would each add 1 goal. Berry would lead the night in ground balls with 7 and won 11/16 face-offs. Wilson and Lombel would be the game-leaders in caused turnovers with 4 each.
Connor Fitzgibbon would earn 2 saves on the night.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial tallied 46 shots, with 15 of them being on goal, had 21/22 successful clears, 32 ground balls, won 13 face-offs, and 20 caused turnovers.
With the win, the Railsplitters improve to 1-1 on the season.
They will be on the road for their next match, as they travel to Mount Olive, NC to face Mount Olive on February 15
th at 1 pm.
