MHU downs Wasps at home
Lions score most goals since 2022.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (7-3, 3-1 SAC) defeated Emory & Henry (0-9, 0-4 SAC) by a score of 25-3 Wednesday evening inside Meares Stadium.
The win marked the most goals scored by the Lions since 2022 and their second highest margin of victory in the past 10 years (25-0 vs. Lees-McRae, 2015).
From the start, Mars Hill took control, rapidly building an 11-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Brandon Woodward got things rolling at 14:24, with an assist from Cole Ross, and just 36 seconds later, Josh McCallion added a goal, assisted by Austin Stroud. The Lions didn't slow down, as Luke Moore, Jake Lynch, and Sam Arendt each contributed to the early scoring spree, leaving Emory & Henry with little room to breathe.
In the second quarter, Mars Hill continued their offensive onslaught, pushing the score to 16-0. Key goals came from AJ Howland, Cross McKinney, and Brandon Woodward, maintaining the Lions' dominance.
Emory & Henry finally found the back of the net in the third quarter with two goals from Kyle Dyott, but Mars Hill quickly answered, with Ben Hokenson and Luke Moore adding goals to stretch the lead to 20-2. As the game progressed into the fourth quarter, Arendt added two more goals, and McKinney and Moore also found the net, capping off a decisive 25-3 victory for the Lions.
Standout individual performances included Moore, who finished with five goals and two assists, McCallion, who contributed four goals and one assist, and Arendt, who registered three goals and three assists. Woodward also had a strong showing with three goals and one assist, while Hokenson contributed two goals.
Xavier Wells made six saves for his first win of the season, playing 30 minutes in the contest.
With a dominant offensive performance and solid defense, Mars Hill will look to carry this momentum into their next matchup at Coker on Sunday at 1 p.m.
