Cobras Fall to Flying Fleet in Midweek Action

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University baseball team fell in non-conference midweek action to Erskine College on Wednesday (Apr 6) by a score of 9-2.

The Flying Fleet took an early lead as they scored one run in the first and another in the third to make it 2-0. Erskine pitching held the Cobras off the scoreboard through the first four innings of play. Coker pushed two runs across in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie things up at 2-2. Andrew Scudder led off with a single and moved to second on a Reilly Hall walk. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch and Scudder scored on a Phill Griffor RBI single. A Kory Hanna sacrifice fly would plate Hall and even the score.

The Erskine bullpen was up to the task, as they held the Cobras off the scoreboard for the remainder of the afternoon. The Flying Fleet scored one in the eighth and put up a six spot in the ninth to take the 9-2 victory.

Hall, Griffor, Cory Listing, Brady Jeffcoat, Tripp Kimmel, Nick Leonard, and Scudder all contributed one hit each with Hanna and Griffor tallying the RBI. Matt Hyatt, Cody Chapman, Collin Breland, Jonathan Ford, and Reid Watkins combined for 5 ⅔ scoreless innings out of the bullpen in the losing effort.

The Cobras return to the diamond this Friday (Apr 8) in game one of a three game series at Anderson (S.C.) University. First pitch is scheduled for 6pm, with live video and statistics available at www.cokercobras.com
