Lions felled by Lander on road
GREENWOOD, S.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (3-8) fell to Lander (4-5) in both games Friday on the road by scores of 7-0 and 8-3.
GAME ONE: LU 7, MHU 0
The Lions were held to just four hits as the Bearcats took game one by a score of 7-0. Lander led 1-0 after one, but tacked on three runs in the fifth to expand their lead, highlighted by Grant Sherrod's two-run single.
Evan Wickeri led all players with three hits and added two RBI.
Peyton Starkey led the Lions with two hits while Chapel Matson and Terick Bumgarner recorded the other two for Mars Hill.
GAME TWO: LU 8, MHU 3
In game two, Lander jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one. They scored one in the fourth before adding two in the eighth and then furthering their lead to eight by scoring three more runs in the bottom of the eighth.
The Lions cut into the deficit in the top of the ninth as both Toby Troutman and Jackson Jones were walked in with the bases loaded. A Lander wild pitch allowed Terick Bumgarner to score the Lions' third and final run of the game.
Elec Yount led the team with two hits while Jones, Walker Fox, and Max LaLime each added one.
Mars Hill wraps up the series with Lander on Saturday, February 15 at 4 p.m.
