Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College softball team split their doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Whitley Field, as Catawba won 8-4 in the opening game before falling in game number two. The Catawba Indians move to 3-5 overall on the year, while the Bulldogs move to 1-3 on the young season.
Riley Tucker went for a two-homer, three RBI game in the opener with a three-hit game in the second game. Madison Taylor and Savannah Beaver also hit home runs in the opening game. Alexandra Bacquie got the win in the circle, giving up two runs in six innings of work.
Tucker got the scoring started in the win, ripping a home run down the right field line. The Catawba Indians came back in the second inning with five runs. Taylor's three-run homer before Tucker homered for the second time in as many innings to take a 6-0 lead. Beaver's three-run shot in the sixth capped the high-scoring effort in game number one.
Catawba out-hit Barton in game number two, but couldn't muster enough runs to complete the sweep.
The Catawba Indians hit the road on Tuesday, playing at Belmont Abbey for a Valentine's Day doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
