
Mars Hill felled by L-R on road
The Mars Hill volleyball team (12-2, 7-2 SAC) was defeated by Lenoir-Rhyne (12-4, 8-1 SAC) in four sets (26-24, 20-25, 19-25, 22-25) Friday night on the road.
HICKORY, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (12-2, 7-2 SAC) was defeated by Lenoir-Rhyne (12-4, 8-1 SAC) in four sets (26-24, 20-25, 19-25, 22-25) Friday night on the road.
The Lions took the first set, 26-24, taking three straight points to close out the frame. Mars Hill knocked down 16 kills in the frame and hit .167 as a team.
The Bears evened up the contest, taking the second and hitting a game-high .311. Emma Clark recorded five kills in the frame followed by four apiece from Colette Romp and Emmaleigh Allen. Jada Cannon led all players with six kills in the set.
Lenoir-Rhyne rolled the momentum over through the next two sets, hitting .171 and .306, respectively, to pick up their 12th win of the season.
Romp led all players with 20 kills and hit .463 on the night. Allen ended the match with 16 kills and 11 digs for the double-double.
Sarah Goddard led the Lions with 16 kills and added 10 digs for the double-double while Cannon collected 15 kills and 14 digs. Jordan Schmucker amassed 42 assists as Laela Jimenez led all players with 22 digs.
Mars Hill returns home on Tuesday, October 4 when they take on Tusculum. The first in a four-game homestand is slated for a 6 p.m. start.
